Friday night market planned at Holland Town Center

HOLLAND TWP. — A marketplace in Holland Township will expand its offerings with its first night market.

The market will be open 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 30, at Holland Town Center — with the intention of "kicking off Tulip Time." The event at 12330 James St. will include a live band, at least two food trucks and two dozen vendors.

Macatawa Marketplace, also known as The Market at Holland Town Center, launched in July 2020 with dozens of vendors and a single food truck.

In six months, the monthly event grew to more than 70 vendors with live music, pumpkins and several hundred customers.

The market began a three-month hiatus in January, but returned Saturday, April 10, and will continue the second Saturday of each month. Additional night markets are planned for July and September.

Organizers are also exploring a chalk art festival, street performers and restaurant-themed picnic tables.

"I thought it'd be something a little different," said organizer Ruth Doane in February.

"We have a big enough area and space. We're trying to have multiple food trucks, as well. You can bring the family, get a bite to eat, shop and be entertained."

During this week's event, the Wooden Shoe Dixieland Band will play. Food trucks Holy Smokers BBQ and Crepes by the Lakes will open well before the event begins, around 2 p.m. Popperz Kennel Corn will also be making snacks on the spot.

"We hope those who want some Tulip Time fun and fare will come out and join us for a great night of music, food and shopping," Doane said. "We are family friendly and pets are welcome."
